How to Paint Hydrangeas

Paint hydrangeas to preserve a piece of summer. Materials Needed: Dried Hydrangeas Rust-Oleum Metallic Brilliant Metal Finish in Antique Brass Metallic {7274} This can be found at Home Depot, which is where I purchased mine.  I have seriously searched every craft store around for a lovely rich deep bronze color, to which I could not find.  Most of them appear pretty orangey.  I wanted more of an espresso chocolate brown.  If you are wanting the espresso richness, this one is the one you want. Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic...

DIY Painted Lotus Pods

With the projects I have been working on lately, I am beginning to feel like a forager of the forest.  Either I am desperate to pimp out mother nature, or I have some small amount of Snow White in my blood and the clock is ticking until a bird lands on my finger as I sing to woodland critters.  Oh well, not matter which it is here is another tutorial.  This time on painting dried lotus pods. Materials Needed: Dried lotus pods. Rust-Oleum Metallic Brilliant Metal Finish in Antique Brass Metallic {7274} *This can be found at Home...

DIY Painted Acorns

 These {not so} little acorns have brought with them much amusement to me and my friends.  Not giving much thought to it, I didn’t really consider the ‘possibility’ of the existence of more than one acorn variety.  Well, there is… or are.  The acorn that amuses us is the Burr Acorn.  The name’s not that funny.  Their appearance – kinda.  But, it’s the confusion it has created which has had us in stitches. Typical Conversation: Each time I have shown what I have done with this abundant Midwest...

Viola Family Thanksgiving Dressing

 If memory serves me correctly, I’ve hosted Thanksgiving every year  since I graduated college in 2002 with the exception of the year we moved (and lived with constant construction everyday for 6 consecutive months – I felt my excuse justified).  In my family the dishes pretty much remain the same year after year.  Good ol’ tried and true favorites (some of these will be shared within the days before Thanksgiving). My personal feelings towards any holiday dinner is the more the merrier.  I feel so blessed with what I...

Pretty Pumpkin {Shaped} Sugar Cookies

 I believe everyone is known for making something really well.  A food.  You know, the item everyone requests for you to bring to whatever event.  And, if you don’t {when not specifically requested} it’s almost like they’re disappointed.  Pretty sugar cookies are my ‘thing.’  I used to hate sharing the recipe.  Almost like if I gave it away, what would they need me for?  I’ve gotten past that.  Older and wiser now, don’t ya know?  So, I am going to share with you the best ever sugar...

Fallspiration

I was reading another blog the other day, written by a blogger in LA.  Sometimes I forget the ‘powers’ of the internet, and it’s amazing ability to bring people from all over the world together.  Not just around the Midwest.  Not just the U.S.  The WORLD!  Pretty amazing.  It’s just so easy to forget all the things that surround us, that may not be in other areas.  Anyways, this LA blogger was mentioning something about their lack of ‘fall colors.’  Nice weather, the beach, plenty of sunshine...

Weight Loss Secrets Revealed {Shhhhh…}

I believe that all of us have things in life we do beyond blogging – I’m not saying much time is contributed to those things, just that we possess the knowledge and ability.  Here is my ‘secret’ life outside blogging:  I am currently a Yoga instructor at two area gyms, I am certified to teach almost every type of class, I have led weight loss challenge teams, and I have read the Personal Trainers Manual in order to take the test to become a certified trainer (then realizing after cost of test and hourly pay rate this...
